Composition

When we view a photograph (or any artwork) our eyes and brain interpret what they see differently from when they view a real world scene. A photograph has a predetermined field of view and so your eyes are constrained within a narrow frame. Your brain looks for clues to how to interpret the scene in front of it. Those clues come from the composition of the photograph. In simple terms, composition is what makes one photograph better to look at than another. Composition is all about what is included or excluded in an image and how they are arranged within that image.
