Not All “Photos” Are Created Equal — A Tale of Three Apps
Printable aide memoire, click to open and download.
Have you ever opened your “Photos” app, confidently tapped a few buttons, and wondered why you couldn’t see the WGPC album? Or uploaded a photo and it vanished into the digital ether?
You're not alone.
Welcome to the confusing world of photos apps that all call themselves “Photos”. Yes, they all claim the same name, but like identical twins with different personalities, they’re not interchangeable.
Let’s meet the culprits:
👑 Apple Photos (aka iPhone/iPad Photos App)
Lives on iPhones, iPads and Macs. It’s tidy, sleek, and only talks to other Apple devices unless coaxed.
Great for: Keeping everything in the Apple ecosystem.
Not so great for: Uploading to our WGPC album. It won’t help you get your photo to where it needs to go unless you specifically open the Google Photos app.
🖼️ Windows Photos (aka “That One with the Blue Icon”)
The default app on Windows PCs. It’s happy to show you what’s on your computer—but doesn’t know the first thing about sharing photos online.
Great for: Viewing and editing local files.
Not so great for: Uploading to Google Photos. It doesn't know that place exists.
🌈 Google Photos (The One You Actually Need)
This is the hero of our story. It works on Windows, Android, iOS, and Mac—and crucially, it’s where our WGPC shared album lives.
You need to open this app or go to https://bit.ly/WGPC_Upload
Log in with your Google account (or create one—see our handy aide memoire)
Find the WGPC Upload Folder
Tap the Add Photos button
Voilà! You’re contributing to the club’s creative life.
💡 Pro Tip: You Can Have All Three!
Yes, your device might have all three “Photos” apps on it. Don’t panic. Just remember:
Google Photos is the only one that talks to the club.
🛟 Still Stuck?
We’ve all been there. If you’re unsure whether you’re in the right app, try this:
On mobile: Look for the rainbow pinwheel icon — that’s Google Photos.
On computer: Open your browser and visit https://bit.ly/WGPC_Upload
Or just email Vic and I’ll help unpick the digital knot.
Let’s keep sharing those great images — just make sure they go to the right “Photos” place!
