As we are all “seasoned” Google Photos users we will all have Google IDs. As with any online ID this consists of a User Name and a password.

  • Your user name is used to access all Google applications (there are a large number of them), including Google Photos. It is also used to “connect” different Google users.

  • Your password should be strong and unique to Google. You should not share it with anyone else and, as with any online password, be wary of any request to divulge it. Make sure the request for the password is genuinely from Google.

When you created your Google account, Google will have suggested a user name, usually in the format of a gmail account name, such as vicsteadman52@gmail.com. They do not tell you that could use your usual email address or that doing so would make your life easier.
