Not All “Google Photos” Are Created Equal
Why the App Is Better Than the Browser for Mobile Users
At WGPC, we use Google Photos to share our work across iPhones, iPads, Android, Windows, and Macs. It’s free (within reason), preserves image quality, and works reliably — if you set it up properly.
But many members using iPhones or iPads don’t realise there’s a key difference between:
📱 The Google Photos App
and
🌐 The Google Photos Website (in Safari or Chrome)
Why This Matters
If you access Google Photos in a web browser, you can see your photos, but they don’t automatically upload. Your new photos stay stuck in iCloud unless you move them by hand.
If you install the Google Photos App, your device can automatically upload every new photo — making it available to you (and the club) instantly across all devices.
What the App Does
✅ Automatically backs up every photo you take
✅ Syncs across devices (iPhone, Android, iPad, Mac, Windows)
✅ Lets you easily share to our WGPC Upload Folder
✅ Solves many “missing photo” problems
What You Should Do
If you use an iPhone or iPad, please install the Google Photos App and switch on photo backup.
📥 Download the App
🔧 Set Up the App
Once installed:
Open the app and sign in with your Google account.
Go to Photos settings > Backup & sync.
Turn on Back up & sync.
That’s it — every photo you take will be backed up to Google Photos.
In a Nutshell
Feature | ✅ Google Photos App | 🌐 Google Photos in Browser |
---|---|---|
Auto backup | ✔️ Yes | ❌ No |
Syncs new photos | ✔️ Yes | ❌ No |
Easy sharing with WGPC | ✔️ Yes | ⚠️ Manual only |
Best option for club photos | ✔️ Yes | ❌ No |
Final Word
Most of the photo-sharing problems we've seen in the club come from the browser version not syncing with your iPhone or iPad. Installing the Google Photos App and turning on backup solves this — and makes it easier for you to enjoy your photos, contribute to the club, and never lose a shot again.
If you’d like help setting it up, just ask — I’m happy to guide you.
